Lighting Design 101: Layering Light at Home

Good lighting is layered. Ambient gives general illumination — pendant or recessed lights. Task light supports activities like reading or cooking. Accent creates focal points: a wall-washer on art, a picture light on a bookshelf.

Use 2700K bulbs for cozy living spaces, 3000K-3500K for kitchens. Always install dimmers — they double the usefulness of every fixture.
